In the legs or various parts of the body, varicose veins can be observed in three different types. Any varicose vein occurring on the skin can be treated without surgery using modern and contemporary methods.
Let’s try to explain these types of varicose veins in detail.
What Are the Grades of Varicose Veins?
Capillary Varicose Veins
This is the mildest form of varicose veins that occurs in capillaries. These veins, with a thickness of a hair, appear in a spiderweb-like structure on the skin when they are dilated, usually in red or purple colors. Although they do not cause many complaints, they can lead to significant aesthetic issues for women. If these veins are widespread, they may cause complaints such as pain, itching, tingling, and cramps. They can be treated with laser and radiofrequency methods.
Moderate Varicose Veins
This type of varicose veins, measuring 2-3 mm, consists of enlarged and twisted veins that slightly protrude on the skin and are green or purple in color. It may cause complaints such as pain, itching, swelling, tingling, and cramps. Treatment can be carried out non-surgically through sclerotherapy and foam methods. Detailed information on treatment will be provided on another page.
Severe Varicose Veins
These varicose veins are more extensive than moderate ones, meaning they are larger than 3 mm. This type of discomfort, clearly visible on the skin, may cause various complaints in some people but may not cause any complaints in others. The treatment for this type of vein enlargement is also possible with the foam sclerotherapy method.
How Is the Treatment of Varicose Veins Performed?
The methods used in the treatment of varicose veins are divided into surgical and non-surgical. However, with the advancement of technology, surgical methods are now used by some institutions but have been abandoned by treatment centers closely following technology. Non-surgical methods are much more preferred due to the ease and advantages they provide to both the patient and the physician. To briefly list and explain the treatment methods applied by me:
Laser: Largely thanks to the innovations brought about by the mentioned advanced technology, laser, which can be used in the treatment of many conditions, is also an effective technique in the treatment of varicose veins. However, due to its limited application area, it can only be used in the treatment of capillary vein enlargements.
Radiofrequency: Similar to the laser method, radiofrequency is applied in the treatment of capillary veins and can be partially applied to some moderate varicose veins.
Foam Sclerotherapy: These are methods used in the treatment of medium and large-sized vein enlargements. It is applied by injecting a special medication into the problematic vein with a thin-tipped needle. Sclerotherapy refers to injecting the medication in its pure form, while the foam method involves injecting the medication after it reacts with air, giving it a white foam-like appearance. The injected medication has no side effects and is excreted from the body through the kidneys.
